Cordyceps in Popular Media

Due to the popularity of the video game The Last of Us and its subsequent television adaptation, stigma and negative opinions of cordyceps have been on the rise. Questions of whether a parasitic fungal apocalypse is possible in humans have been circulating online. However, the possibility of cordyceps infecting humans has been debunked by several researchers. There are many fungal pathogens that can infect humans, but taking cordyceps supplements does not put anyone at risk for contracting a cordyceps infection.
